Sihuazhong (T 77.09)

Location

This point is on the ST channel, 7.5 cun distal to Dubi (ST 35), which is in the depression lateral to the patella ligament on the knee.

Indications
Primary: 
  • Respiratory disorders: pneumonia, asthma, pleural effusion, pleuritis, tuberculosis, emphysema, lung tumor, lung cancer
  • Cardiovascular disorders: coronary heart disease, arteriosclerosis, myocardial infarct, endocarditis, myocarditis, angina pectoris, chest distension, chest pain, shortness of breath, heart failure, cardiomegaly, palpitation, arrhythmia
  • Gastrointestinal disorders: acute enteritis, stomach pain, gastritis
Secondary: 
  • Disorders of the eyes: soreness and pain of the eyeball, conjunctivitis, cataracts
  • Frozen shoulder, index finger pain, elbow pain, cubital fossa pain, bone swelling

Techniques

Needle 1.5 - 2 cun for asthma and eye problems, 3 cun for heart disease.

  • Needling close to or along the tibia can yield the best therapeutic effect.
  • Bilateral needling is recommended for treating lung disorders, pain of the elbow, scapula, and fingers.

This point can also be bled, especially when treating gastrointestinal disorders, cardiovascular disorders, chest stuffiness and pleurisy.
